                                              Welcome to November

As I look out my window, I spot festive leaves drop silently from the trees as they float to the frosted grass below. In my mind I can almost hear the crunch of those leaves beneath my double-socked feet. I imagine the earthy scent the chilled wind rolls in with each passing breeze. The view from my blurred window is no match to what lies before me. The muted grass is layered with a thick blanket of frost and fog that gently hovers above. The pines in the distance send a distinct smell of fall rushing up my cold nose. Winter is creeping around the corner waiting for the precise moment to burst out of its autumn shell. The brown, maroon and orange guests of the trees continue to depart from their supporting host.

I throw on a woolly jacket and my fuzzy gloves before slowly stepping out into the calmness of my large backyard. There isn’t one peep of a blue jay or a single squawk of a crow. The only sound is the rustle of the leaves and the peaceful whir of the wind.

This is the time to be thankful for the magnificent wonder of fall. I zoom inside because of the savory smell of cinnamon and nutmeg that has been infused into a homemade pumpkin pie. Ah, that smell is king of all smells  that was ever inhaled. It fills me with a relaxing sense of safety within. I glide quietly over to the deep couch in our fire-lit living room, eager to intake the steaming pie in my still hand.

I bundle up in an enormous geometric quilt made by my loving Grandma as I, without a word, read an adventurous novel. Wrapping up in the pastel quilt develops a love and thought for family members not with us that is only felt around times of celebration and togetherness. The excitement of the hearty dinner yet to come overflows my senses, leaving a delighted grin on my face.

This is the glorious month to be thankful for everything colossal and minor. This is a time for giggling with family and exchanging sweet hugs.  Come inside my comfy home and enjoy some hot apple cider while I tell you another story.

Welcome to November.
